I still remember that day.
you were waiting for me in that field, a small smile on your face
you were staring towards the sun, but as you saw me, you moved to meet me

As we met, we embraced
I don’t think I have ever held you so tightly in my arms before
you whispered something in my ear, a promise of sorts
I looked at you after you had finished and nodded

I pulled you close again, and this time
I whispered something in your ear, a promise of my own
you smiled as I finished, and soon I saw tears start to fill your eyes

When I asked what was wrong
you said that they were tears of joy. tears, because you had never thought such
wonderful things could happen to a girl like you, a girl cursed with a horrible fate
I pulled you closer and whispered something else in your ear, another promise

I remember how your face lit up at the promise
I remember us running through that field, stopping only to feel the breeze
or the warmth of the sun on our faces. I remember as we
each made small promises to each other

That day was the best day
we had together, full of life and happiness
the small promises we made to each other that day were
Pieces Of A Promise
that you and I both wanted to keep

Now I always remember that day
as I sit here by your grave, old and gray-haired
a smile on my face and tears in my eyes
knowing that the promise
we made that day were kept
